This 6 Days Great Tanzania Northern Serengeti Migration Safari is a budget camping safari, planned by Kilisa Tours & Safaris to give you the best chance of seeing the famous Mara River wildebeest crossings in Northern Serengeti. You visit Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti (Kogatende / Wagakuria – Mara River) and the Ngorongoro Crater, on a real Tanzania wildlife safari at an affordable price.

Camping safaris are great for travelers who like a bit of adventure and want to be close to nature. You sleep under the African sky and hear the animals around camp at night. Your meals are properly cooked for you, and your guide takes you out on game drives in some of Africa's best-known national parks.

This trip is built around the Great Wildebeest Migration in Northern Serengeti, and especially the dramatic Mara River crossings, which usually happen between mid-July and October. At this time more than one million wildebeest and zebras move north from Central Serengeti. They cross the Grumeti River and then the Mara River on their way toward Kenya's Maasai Mara.

Day 1 Arusha - Serengeti Central Via Ngorongoro

Day 2 Full Day Game Drive Serengeti Seronera Area

Spend a full day exploring Central Serengeti. This region supports abundant wildlife year-round, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and large herds of plains game. Riverine areas attract birdlife such as fish eagles and kingfishers.

Day 3 Central -Northern Serengeti (Seronera-Kogatende)

After breakfast, drive north toward the remote Northern Serengeti, passing through the Lobo area. Game viewing continues along the way, with chances to see elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and migrating herds.

Arrive near the Mara River in the afternoon and enjoy a game drive in the Kogatende / Wagakuria area, where wildebeest gather before attempting river crossings.

Day 4 Serengeti Northern To Central Serengeti

This day is dedicated to exploring the Mara River area in search of wildebeest river crossings. The timing of crossings depends on wildlife movement and patience is required, but the experience can be dramatic and unforgettable.

The area also supports large populations of lions, crocodiles, hippos, hyenas, elephants, and abundant birdlife.

Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari (Extra Cost):
Guests may choose to start the day with an early morning Serengeti Hot Air Balloon Safari over the Northern Serengeti. This unique experience offers a bird’s-eye view of the Mara River, open plains, and migrating herds at sunrise. The flight lasts approximately one hour and concludes with a champagne-style bush breakfast in the Serengeti plains. Balloon safaris are subject to weather conditions and advance booking is required.

After the balloon experience, guests rejoin their guide for continued game drives in the Mara River region.
