Tour Overview

Kilisa Tours and Safaris runs budget cultural tours in Tanzania at fair prices. A cultural tour with us is a relaxed, friendly way to learn about the people of Tanzania and the rich culture they live every day. We plan each tour around you, so you spend real time with local people in their own communities instead of watching from a distance. You'll come home with good conversations, new friends and a better understanding of the cultural, social and environmental issues that matter to the people you meet.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Materuni Vlllage And Coffee Tour

A tour to Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a great way to spend a day away from the bustle of town life. The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania

You will be picked up at your hotel at 0800hrs and transferred to the Materuni village. It is roughly 30 minutes’ drive from Moshi town.

The tour starts with a walk to Materuni Waterfall. It is an opportunity to see how local fruit like avocados, mangos, lemons, and bananas grow, as well as learn some of the local history, traditions, village economy, agricultural and cultural life. When you get to the waterfall, you can refresh yourself in the natural pool, so swimsuits will come in handy!

The tour will continue with a visit to the local village lying in the coffee plantations. The villagers will demonstrate the process of coffee farming and guide you through the preparation of coffee from a bean to a cup. Sing and dance along with the Chaga people as they are grinding, roasting and boiling the beans. When the coffee is ready, villagers will serve lunch.

Late evening transfer to Moshi for overnight staying at Parkview Inn

  2. Day 2 Olpopongi Maasai

Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village & Museum is the first authentic Maasai Boma and Museum with overnight facilities in Tanzania. Olpopongi provides a unique Maasai & wildlife experience in the West-Kilimanjaro Maasailand, Just 74 km from Moshi While at the village you will share the authentic Maasai life & culture. The income obtained from your tour supports local Maasai families with water, food, employment, personal income, medical treatments and education.

You will be picked up at your hotel at 0900hrs and transferred to the Olpopongi Maasai Village. It is roughly a 1 and a half hour drive from Moshi town. While at the village you will be given a tour of the village and museum to get a better understanding of Maasai culture and tradition. You will also go on a short walking safari and learn about Maasai hunting techniques and their natural medicines. A traditional lunch will be prepared for you in the afternoon. After your tour of the village you will be transferred Olisigilai Lodge for overnight.

Note: All Maasai – jewelry on sale is hand-made and produced by the local Maasai women of other nearby villages. All Museum tours & walking safaris are performed by experienced English speaking Maasai guides.

What Our Travelers Say About Our Tours

  • Highly Experienced and Wonderful Crew

The 7 days Lemosho route Kilimanjaro trek exceeded our expectations. The route is so beautiful and we enjoyed tackling the mountain with experienced guides - Bakari and Nickson. They were supportive from start to finish in all the aspects of the trek, starting with the technical strategy on the speed, rests and ensuring that we were healthy through regular checks.

  • Absolutely Beautiful Memories For My Family

Traveling with my 6 members of my family of ages between 8 and 73 is always a complex task with many moving parts. We had to arrange for Mama and Poppas dietary restrictions, accommodations, easy access for Mama and off-course places with a pool and kids activities for Lil Poppa and his teenage sister Anna.

  • The Best Experience Absolutely

We could not have asked for a better experience on Kilimanjaro. Everything about this trip with this local operator was top notch. Starting with the booking with Naick who made it smooth and easy with his timely responses and advice. Payment was easy and they took care of all the logistics that all we had to do was present ourselves at the KIA.
